Cancer: You're $51,000 closer to extinction.

Our incredible organizing committee and LLS volunteers at the 2013 event

Thanks to an incredible finish over the final two weeks, the 2013 campaign of The Dude Hates Cancer surpassed its stated goal of $50,000 raised for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It's a spectacular accomplishment, especially considering the campaign raised just over $30,000 in 2012.  And we're so happy to raise this money in memory of TDHC inspiration Lisa Maxwell, who lost her fight with blood cancer just a year ago.

We owe a deep debt of gratitude to several teams and individuals for their fundraising prowess during this campaign.  Three teams rose above the rest with increidble efforts: Strikeforce 3000 ($8,004!), Split Happens ($5,190), and The Harpooners ($4,306.11). And leading the way individually were Mike Clement (Split Happens), who raised $5,190 and won the Trip for Two to California, and Brielle d'Estries (The Harpooners), who raised a fantastic $4,226.11.

Of course, we'd be remiss if we didn't recognize the generous sponsors who made this event possible. Tops amongst that list are Rupp, Baase, Pfalzgraf, Cunningham, & Coppola, LLC, Transit Lanes, The Ed McGrath Fund, and The Premier Group.  We'd also like to recognize the outstanding contributions of the following businesses: Harpoon Brewery, Dipson Theatres, Premier Gourmet, 97 Rock, and WGR 550.

Oh yeah, and there was a bowling tournament, as well! 225 Participants took to the lanes and one team emerged victorious, The Dollar Tree Cancer Killers, one of three teams representing event sponsor, Rupp, Baase, Pfalzgraf, Cunningham, & Coppola, LLC. They scored an incredible 1898 over two games, narrowly edging out an impressive score of 1820 by Bunny LaJoya. Our top individual male and female bowlers, respectively, were Jerry Nostrant (231) of team Jerry Abides and Janel Rupp (188) of Dollar Tree Cancer Killers.

Finally, congratulations to our Buffalo Restaurant Pass raffle winners.  Jill Green was the lucky winner of our grand prize -- The Buffalo Restaurant Pass -- the most delicious raffle prize in Western New York.  And Nancy Hutzler won our Brunch Pass prize.  Thank you to all who bought and sold tickets on our behalf!

Another The Dude Hates Cancer campaign is in the books. And we're closer than ever to a cure for these disease. We hope to see you next year on the lanes!
